Training Tip: With the heat continuing to build, it is time to start thinking about your hydration status during the week. Think about upping your water intake a day or two before the log runs to head off any problems that might occur. Also think about investing in some type of hydration belt for the training itself. One of our sponsors, Ken Combs Running store, has a large selection of hydration belts to choose from.

One more reminder about the Families for Fathers 5K. This is a special event coordinated with Metropolitan Urology and WAVE 3 for a great cause (prostate cancer). We would like you to help us make this event a success once again. You could do one of two things to help us, either volunteer to help us, or simply show your support by registering and running or walking the event. Please contact Stacey if you are interested in helping out. Either way, we would love your support.
Once again. here are the MARATHON & MINI schedules to use for your fall training. We are now in week 2 on the schedule.
We hope to see everyone at the 5K this weekend. The group training will resume next week at The Training Studio.
See you soon. Have a great week.

Fall Marathon Program
June 10, 2010 by Dale Benedict
It’s that time of year again. We are starting the fall run/walk season this weekend @ 7:00am. The marathon/half marathon of choice this year is the OBX race on November 14th. We always switch gears to marathon training in the fall and therefore all weekend mileage will be based on completing the OBX marathon. This simply means that those training for the half will just have to turn around sooner. Please keep in mind, that all members are still welcome to join us, regardless of what distance or race you are training for.
Here are the MARATHON & MINI schedules to use for your fall training. Our running coach, Carrie Hoddinott, has designed some custom schedules for the fall program. These schedules are both 23 weeks long and built specifically for the OBX mini or full marathon. Week 1 of the schedule starts this week, with our first group run/walk being 8 miles. Those choosing to stay with a mini marathon will just have to turn around sooner.
We are also trying to get a “head count” of those planning to participate in the OBX with us this year, or any other full/half marathons in the fall. Please send us a quick note telling us what you are training for.
Here is the route for this weekend.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend. Have a great week.

Mini Marathon is a success!!

Despite the potential for a miserable day, the weather cooperated somewhat. The little bit of rain that did come probably helped more than it hurt. Overall the weather turned out to be almost perfect for racing. We saw a lot of scared and uncertain faces at the start and some excited, tired faces at the finish. It was great to see everyone.
The new start and finish lines put a couple of kinks in our organized meeting areas. We tried to get some pictures at our scheduled meeting place close to the start, but the congestion was too overwhelming. We will have a much better area lined up for next year. The same thing happened at the finish. We tried to get as close as possible to the exit of the runners corral and did for a while but the KDF officials forced us to remove our banner from the tent. We stayed to cheer everyone on and take pictures, but it was hard to figure out who we were. Despite the kinks, we did get some great footage. Check out the new“Photo Gallery” post.
Next topic, the fall training season. Our main focus for the fall training season is the OBX marathon and half marathon. The weekly mileage will be designed around training for the marathon, but those training for the mini will just have to turn around a little earlier. We have a couple glitches in the training schedule at the beginning of June but, by the end of the month we should be in full training mode. We plan to resume the training on June 12th, will take a short hiatus on June 19th for the Families for Fathers 5K, then resume and get focused again for training on June 26th. Don’t forget that your membership is annual, everybody is welcome to continue training with us for the rest of the year, even if you are not planning to do an event. Just come and enjoy the friendships and stay in shape.
Have a great Derby week!!
See you soon.
