We are planning a special “sneak peak” of our new location for all existing clients.  We had originally hoped to do this Saturday, but construction delays have forced a short delay.

Mark your calendar for Friday, August 6th, from 5-8 pm. We plan to have several different exercise and product demonstrations during that time period.

Keep an eye out in your newsletter for specific details as we get closer.

We hope to see everyone there.  Have a great day!

TRX Suspension Training

We are all about education here at The Training Studio. With that being said, we have uncovered a very important piece of exercise equipment that is changing the fitness industry. Whether, you use this method with us here at The Training Studio or at home in your own gym, you need to be aware of this.

Born in the U.S. Navy Seals and developed by Fitness Anywhere, Suspension Training is a revolutionary method of leveraged bodyweight exercise.  Easily set up the portable TRX Suspension Trainer and your’re in control.  Safely perform hundreds of exercises that build power, strength, flexibility, balance, mobility, and prevent injuries, all at the intensity you choose.

We are so excited about this concept that we are making TRX Suspension Training the primary component of our new River road facility.  Click HERE for more detailed info about TRX.  You can also see the TRX in action via our new Training Studio video.

SUSPENSION TRAINING TAKES HOLD IN NEW LOUISVILLE FITNESS
FACILITY

Exercising is hard enough work on its own — add complicated, monotonous gym
equipment and it’s no wonder most people’s resolutions failed back in March.
Louisville’s The Training Studio aims to change the idea of a “gym” with its new
River Road facility.

With the bootcamp boom in full swing, The Training Studio is upping the ante —
a workout system designed by a Navy SEAL. TRX Suspension Training utilizes a
unique Y-shaped strap that can be mounted nearly anywhere to perform
hundreds of functional body weight exercises.

Dale Benedict, founder and co-owner of The Training Studio, is excited to make
TRX Suspension Training the cornerstone of the new studio. According to
Benedict, functional training is the key to unlocking the body’s full potential.
TRX Suspension Training offers a way to build strength, balance and flexibility
using just one piece of equipment.  The exercises can be adapted to any fitness
level simply by changing foot stance and body angle.

The Training Studio, which opens in August, will offer other options in the 2,250-
square-foot space, including resistance bands, plyometric boxes and kettlebells
— not to mention a 25-foot-long pull-up bar.  The studio (located at 1348 River
Road, next to Stop Lite Liquors) will offer 17 group strength training sessions
each week in addition to small group and private training sessions.  Meanwhile,
The Training Studio will continue to offer group and private training at its original
St. Matthews facility.

The St. Matthews location is a full service facility known for itʼs comprehensive
approach to fitness. Since opening in 1997, The Training Studio has helped
clients achieve goals from weight loss and general fitness to triathlon and
marathon training. Endurance training programs prepare numerous local athletes
for half-marathons, marathons and triathlons for several races each year.

“Total fitness cannot be achieved by performing just one type of exercise that you
enjoy or prefer.  Instead, it is a lifestyle change that can only be achieved by
teaching and utilizing proper nutrition, stretching, strength training, cardiovascular
conditioning and lifestyle enhancement.” Benedict said.

In the next few weeks we will be shooting several different fitness/testimonial videos to promote and market our new facility.  There is power in numbers, so please come join in the fun.  The first scheduled mass workout is this Saturday (July 3rd) at 11:00am.  Live exercise is one aspect of this endeavor with exciting stories and/or testimonials being the other.  If you have a great story you would like to share regarding any aspect of the Training Studio (running group friendships, weight loss, stength changes, nutrition breakthroughs, race milestones, or anything at all), please contact us via email to get your story out to the masses.

Growth and expansion on the horizon

We are excited to announce that this month (June) marks our 10th year at this location.  This is a very important milestone that long ago seemed like a “pipe dream”, but has finally come to fruition.  Several of you, believe it or not, are still with us after all these years.  The initial goal for starting this business was to create a type of “extended family” atmosphere where customers would meet new people and develop long-lasting friendships on their journey towards total health and fitness.  Some people revel in the journey itself and take their time getting to the destination, while others “go for the gusto” and give it their all to get there as soon as possible. I believe we have created this “extended family” atmosphere.  It has been very rewarding to be part of so many positive results and visible changes, along with all of the new friendships that have developed and flourished over the years.  We are looking forward to many more years of inflicting proper doses of pain and suffering.

With that being said, we would like to officially announce the addition of a new location.  Our second location will be located on River road across the street from the U of L rowing facility.   This location will take an “old school, bare bones” approach towards functional strength training.   We will pass on more details as they become available.  Projected opening date is August 2010.

Fall Marathon program

It’s that time of year again.  We are starting the fall run/walk season this weekend @ 7:00am.  The marathon/half marathon of choice this year is the OBX race on November 14th.  We always switch gears to marathon training in the fall and therefore all weekend mileage will be based on completing the OBX marathon. This simply means that those training for the half will just have to turn around sooner.  Please keep in mind, that all members are still welcome to join us, regardless of what distance or race you are training for.

Here are the MARATHON & MINI schedules to use for your fall training.  Our running coach, Carrie Hoddinott, has designed some custom schedules for the fall program.  These schedules are both 23 weeks long and built specifically for the OBX mini or full marathon.  Week 1 of the schedule starts this week, with our first group run/walk being 8 miles.  Those choosing to stay with a mini marathon will just have to turn around sooner.

We are also trying to get a “head count” of those planning to participate in the OBX with us this year, or any other full/half marathons in the fall.  Please send us a quick note telling us what you are training for.

Here is the route for this weekend.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend.  Have a great week.

New OAT session begins this week!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break! Now it is time to put down the little umbrella drinks and get back on your workout routine. Derby is around the corner and I know that we all want to feel confident at all the festivities.

Outdoor Accelerated Training will help you achieve that confidence.  Tuesday kicks off the 3rd session and will last 4 weeks (April 13-May 6). Class is every Tuesday and Thursday 5am- 6am at The Training Studio. Remember that it is on a first come first serve basis – so reserve your spot today by emailing me at  carrie@thetrainingstudio.com.

Outdoor Accelerated Training is for individuals of all fitness levels. It is a circuit based program that is designed around progression. This means that all stations consist of exercises that can be modified to increase or decrease the load as needed. Instead of reps per set, OAT uses a specific time for each set to focus more on form rather than # of reps. It is all about self improvement as you advance through the session!

Click HERE for more details about this program.
